Our Development of
the Philosophy of Industrial Conservation is supported by a robust Taxonomy of
the Nature of Assets and rests on Powerful and Evident Precepts that we have
been teaching in our Universities for decades, expressed in the co-authorship of
3 reference textbooks in use by Engineering.
A CONCEPT
We define
Industrial Conservation as human action on a system that, through the
application of scientific and technical knowledge, contributes to the optimal
use of the resources of the human habitat, thereby promoting the integral
development of man and his ecosystem. Industrial Conservation is divided into
two large branches, Preservation, which refers to the material part of the
system, and Maintenance, which is related to the service provided by said
material.
Industrial
Conservation requires information on the attention that an element requires for
it to function properly during its useful life, that is, it requires general
conservation strategies.
WHY IS THIS DOUBLE
POINT OF VIEW NECESSARY?
EVERY PHYSICAL
ASSET HAS TWO ATTRIBUTES.
An Attribute is
Physical and Tangible and is managed through Preservation tasks in order to
Control Failures produced by Wear and the action of Entropy. We evaluate the
strength of this asset by its Failure Rate. Within this Physical Attribute ¨In
Preservation Rests, Settles, Detects and Perceives the Benefit with a certain
ease and rapid human understanding of the Advances in Technology Contained in
the Asset in a Palpable manner.
The other
Attribute is Intangible and is believed to be managed through those Activities
and Tasks that today the majority of Society mistakenly calls Maintenance,
since this Attribute really promotes the Quality of Service that the Physical
Asset Provides to ensure the stipulated levels of Quality Delivered to the User
Item, and that today are Neglected by Companies in General because they are
easily confused.
The Effectiveness
of the Service is controlled through its Complaint Rate, which is a consequence
of Information Entropy.
• We quantify the
benefits of the service from its own Intangible Nature such as, Response
Capacity, Reliability, Availability, Dispatchability, Ability to perform the
promised service carefully, Empathy, etc. but always with the Objective in Mind
that this Attribute is the one that wins and retains the market that the
Company supplies.
THE ULTIMATE
REASON FOR AN ASSET IS TO PROVIDE SERVICE AND NOT TO PRESENT A TECHNOLOGICAL
INNOVATION. IT IS NOT AND HAS NOT BEEN THE TECHNOLOGY THAT TIPS THE BALANCE OF
THE ULTIMATE DECISION FOR ITS ACQUISITION OR RENTAL BY THE USER. IT IS THE
IMPROVEMENT OF THE SERVICE PERCEIVED OR RECEIVED BY THE USER
The citizen PAYS
WHATEVER FOR THE QUALITY SERVICE, to which he is already accustomed or which he
is accustomed to receiving. And furthermore, he has the habit of receiving it
at all times and when HIS NEED FOR THAT SERVICE MATERIALIZES IN HIS MIND AND HE
REQUIRES IT to satisfy his Human Needs at that Moment, and therefore requires
AVAILABILITY 24 HOURS / 7 DAYS A WEEK / 53 WEEKS A YEAR REGARDLESS OF THE
TEMPORARY OR INTERMITTENT MANIFESTATION OF TIME
COMPLAINTS ARE
NEVER THE SAME AS FAILURE. YOU HAVE DIFFERENT DISPERSION MECHANISMS AND
THEREFORE CONTROL AND ADMINISTRATION
PRESERVATION
ACTIVITIES ARE FOCUSED ON SAFEGUARDING THE ASSET FROM THE ACTION OF THE
ENVIRONMENT AND THE STRESS MATRIX ON ITS PHYSICAL PART
The evidence of
this Dichotomy of Assets is currently being Rapidly Revealed with greater
clarity through CONTINUOUS MONITORING STRATEGIES OF THE HEALTH of the Asset,
whether through industry 4.9, IIoT, Big-Data, Digital Twins, or Artificial
Intelligence, etc., since the distributions of the failures are predominantly
random and this nature only with this type of strategy, we have a feasible way
that we can close the Gap between the FAILURE NOTICE AND ITS MATERIALIZATION IN
TIME.
For some time now,
a NEW PARADIGM has been operating that supports this philosophy
The REPLACEMENT OF
THE OWNERSHIP OF THE ITEM with its respective care activities by the
PREPARATION OF WARRANTY CONTRACTS AND COMPLIANCE WITH THE PRODUCTION of that
same item.
In exchange, the
Preservation activities and some of the Maintenance activities have been
transferred to the DOMAIN AND CORE OF THE OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer)
since it is the one that designed, manufactured and has the Information of the
Item, not the Technical Personnel of the Company in its entirety
THIS GREAT AND ESSENTIAL
DIFFERENCE IS STILL NOT COMPLETELY UNDERSTOOD AND COMPREHENSED AND ITS
IMPLICATIONS BY THE CITIZENRY.
Where is the Great Confusion. Since the concept of repair was born and
given the intangible nature of a part of its Dichotomy, it caused the technicians
of the companies to assign the Functions of Industrial Conservation (the Whole)
only one part, the Physical and EVIDENT OF THAT DICHOTOMY OF THE ASSET, to the
Preservation of the Asset, leaving Orphaned and meaningless within its Vision
to Maintenance. Today there is a Revolution led by the countless Electricity
Blackouts in various Countries that have made the Major Error of placing types
of Machines and Energy Generation Devices based on Intermittent,
Non-Dispatchable and Unreliable Sources, Not Available and that necessarily
require the Backup of a Traditional Plant for when these or reduce their Low
Production (due to that natural intermittence based on the weather forecast and
its low efficiency factor in the transformation of the incoming energy) or to
the intrinsic characteristics of an Energy Demand by the users. All of this is
supported by a fierce appetite of a lobby that seeks and obtains Huge Subsidies
that the end user then has to pay through increased rates and electricity
bills.
